The Emergency Management Department held a regular press conference in February. Introduced at the meeting,January,Natural disasters in China are mainly earthquakes, low-temperature freezing and snow disasters.,Drought, wind and hail, forest and grassland fires also occur to varying degrees.
A total of 422,000 people were affected by various natural disasters in China, one person died and the direct economic loss was 3.74 billion yuan. Compared with the average of the same period in recent five years, it decreased by 83%, 91% and 7% respectively.
In January, the national natural disasters mainly showed the following characteristics: First, the low temperature, rain, snow and freezing affected the central and eastern regions twice, but the disaster losses were relatively light. Second, the seismic activity is relatively strong. There were five earthquakes of magnitude 5 or above in mainland China, including one of magnitude 6.0 to 6.9 and four of magnitude 5.0 to 5.9. Third, some parts of South China suffered from drought in winter and spring, and local droughts occurred in Guangdong, Fujian, Yunnan and Guangxi. The situation of forest and grassland fires in China is stable. Fourth, sporadic wind and hail disasters occurred in Guizhou and Yunnan, causing some cash crops to be affected.
