[Editor’s Note] This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China. Over the past 70 years, the construction of beautiful China has made continuous progress. Especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the CPC Central Committee with the Supreme Leader as the core has attached great importance to the construction of ecological civilization, and environmental protection and ecological civilization construction have entered a new period of development. This time, Guangming. com launched a series of special programs called "China Spirit of Endeavour", which profoundly narrated the struggle deeds in the process of ecological civilization construction and poverty alleviation in the form of micro-video, conveyed the struggle responsibility shown in the construction of ecological civilization in the new era, and perceived the enterprising spirit of China.
In this issue, we came to Baoshan, Yunnan, and went deep into Shanzhou Forest Farm to tell the story of Yang Shanzhou’s example of greening barren hills and benefiting the people after retirement.
In Baoshan, Yunnan, there was such a prefectural party committee secretary, whom the masses affectionately called secretary of sandals. He was Yang Shanzhou.
"When going to the countryside, including going to the provincial capital for a meeting, he basically didn’t modify it. He wore sandals on his feet and a bamboo hat on his head, and then he carried a hoe. When he saw the people busy farming and planting crops, he shook the hoe and immediately took us down to manage the soil and dig the fields." Su Jiaxiang recalled.
In March 1988, after retirement, Yang Shanzhou gave up the opportunity to enjoy his old age in Kunming, the provincial capital, packed up his bedding and returned to his hometown of Daliangshan. In the 1980s, due to decades of excessive logging, the once beautiful Daliang Mountain became a barren hill. In order to create an oasis for the people, Yang Shanzhou returned to the depths of the mountains, lived in huts, built mountain roads and led everyone to plant trees on barren hills.
Self-study Hong said: "When we first entered the market, our funds were also difficult. (Yang Shanzhou) The old secretary took us to the nearby street to pick up the fruit stones, and all the workers and comrades went to various streets to pick up the fruit stones. If we can increase some, we will increase some."
After 22 years of hard work, my hair turned white and the barren hills turned green. Yang Shanzhou, with the cadres and the masses, planted 56,000 mu of trees and put green clothes on Daliang Mountain.
"By 2009, there was a total of 0.6 million mu, and the entire coverage rate has risen to over 90%. The entire Daliangshan area was originally a barren hill." Su Jiaxiang said.
Li Chaorong said: "Afforestation is for the benefit of the next generation. After the arrival of Yang Shanzhou’s old secretary, the roads (here) were repaired, the electricity racks were connected, the forests were built, the water sources were improved, and all aspects of income were improved. "
"The old secretary (Yang Shanzhou) often told us that the Communist party member had to do the revolution until his feet were closed (to the end), so he handed over 56,000 mu of Linhai to the country and handed it over to the people." Zhou Bo said.
"I am now lecturing at Yang Shanzhou Cadre College. I want to publicize my father’s spirit to the whole country, publicize it to all the students who come here to study, and do my best." Yang Huilan said.
Zhou Bo said: "The old secretary of Xue (Yang Shanzhou) has been dedicated all his life, incorruptible all his life, pragmatic all his life and loyal all his life."
This is Yang Shanzhou, the heart of a lifetime, who turned the last glow of his life into an eternal spring on Daliang Mountain in his hometown.
