The first "Hualong No.1" nuclear power unit in western China was officially put into production.

On the morning of March 25th, with the successful completion of the 168-hour trial operation test, Unit 3 of Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station of China General Nuclear Power Group was officially put into operation and had commercial operation conditions. With the commissioning of this unit, CGNPC has 27 nuclear power units in operation, with an installed capacity of over 30.56 million kilowatts.

According to the relevant person in charge of CGNPC, Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Project is the first nuclear power project in western China, and Unit 3 of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant is also the first "Hualong No.1" nuclear power unit in western China, which brings together the technical experience accumulated by CGNPC in nuclear power research and development, design, construction and operation for more than 40 years and shoulders the historical mission of batch construction of three generations of nuclear power in China.

Mei Jun, Party Secretary and Chairman of Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. said that the commissioning of Unit 3 of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station further verified the safety and maturity of the third-generation nuclear power technology "Hualong No.1" with independent intellectual property rights in China. After the first and second phases of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Project are completed and put into operation, the annual power generation will exceed 34.5 billion kWh, which can meet the annual electricity demand of 5.87 million people.

Lu Xianghui, chief expert of the theoretical design of China Guangdong Nuclear Reactor and chief engineer of China Guangdong Nuclear Research Institute Co., Ltd., revealed that "Hualong No.1" adopted 177 sets of core fuel assemblies, double containment, active and passive combination and other design features. The design of "Hualong No.1" reactor strictly followed the requirements of domestic laws and regulations. On the basis of safety improvement, the reactor core power increased by about 9% compared with the domestic second-generation nuclear power units, reaching the international advanced level as a whole.

Yang Changli, Party Secretary and Chairman of CGNPC, said at the commissioning ceremony that vigorously developing nuclear energy is of great significance for ensuring China’s energy security, implementing the national strategic goal of "double carbon" and building a new power system.
